We’re sure you’re all familiar with the Starbucks cup mistake in a recent Game of Thrones episode. If you’re not… Let us update you.
In the fourth episode of the much anticipated final season of Game of Thrones, a scene included a mistake addition to the set… A Starbuck’s cup.
Of course, this had people talking right away and above all the obvious season questions like “Who will end up on the throne?!” or “Who’s going to die in tonight’s episode?”, people were also wondering “Was that really a mistake?!”.
You would think that such a popular and critically acclaimed television show would be triple checking every scene to avoid errors like this. HBO did however admit that this was a mistake and not an elaborately thought out marketing deal with Starbucks, not that we had our suspicions or anything…
The confirmation was presented in a jokey way via the official Game of Thrones Twitter account, which sent the following Tweet:
This mistake did give Starbucks a HUGE $2.3billion in free advertising however. Photos and videos of the quite clearly misplaced coffee cup during a feast scene were soon shared and posted online, soon going Viral.
While it has been confirmed an error, we’re still sceptical that this could possibly be a mistake. Either way though, with the power of social media, Starbucks have gained this once in a blue moon opportunity and that’s that.
This cup is not the only mistake eagle-eyed fans have pointed out in the recent Game of Thrones season… This one could possibly be worse.
Don’t read on if you’ve not seen “The Bells” episode yet… Some spoilers are coming your way!
The Lannister twins, Jaime and Cersei embrace as the Red Keep under King’s Landing starts to collapse around them and they just know their fate is sealed. During this rather intense and emotional scene, fans couldn’t help but notice Jaime’s hand had miraculously grown back for his final scene on the show. Again leaving fans asking “Why?!”.
A lot of speculation has come around this final season, with many fans stating their disappointment. Is this a last-ditch attempt by Game of Thrones to distract people? They do say after all, any publicity is good publicity. We guess we’ll never know exactly how this season has been filled with rather obvious mistakes but what we do know is that it’s certainly got people talking.
What do you think about the final season, mistakes and all? We’d love to hear your opinions.See More Posts
