If you haven’t heard of Salt Bae then you must have been living under a (salt) rock for the last couple of years. But what has the internets favourite seasoner been up to since he became a viral sensation – it’s time to take a look #BehindTheMeme

Since uploading what was to become one of the biggest memes of 2017 – receiving over 2.4 million views and 8,700 comments in 48 hours – Nusret Gökçe has not only found success in becoming a sensual, relatable meme, but his new found fame has propelled his own restaurants to new heights.

Back in 2010, before winning us over with a flick of his wrist, Gökçe opened his first restaurant ‘Nusr-Et’ in Istanbul; followed by another in 2014. After posting his video ‘Ottoman Steak’ in January 2017, by February business in his chain of Turkish steakhouses was booming and he was serving his suavely cut meat to the likes of Olympic Gold Medalist Simone Biles.

10 million views and several international T.V. interviews later he is now planning on opening a chain of American hamburger houses named in honour of his pseudonym. Having already signed the lease for the Los Angeles location and already talking about moving onto Soho, we definitely aren’t feeling salty about the possibility of seeing Salt Bae in action for real. Will you be heading over for a dish?
